“It is not a strike they have started; it is a civil war!” -J.R. Smallwood
School Zone Productions presents “I.W.A.” - the true story of a battle that broke lives and careers, virtually stopped the province's labour movement dead in its tracks for the next decade and was the turning point in Newfoundland’s love affair with Premier J.R. Smallwood and his populist politics. The loggers’ strike of 1959 permanently affected thousands of Newfoundland workers and, by the time it ended, its many casualties included a federal justice minister's political career and a policeman's life. Directed by Fabian O’Keefe, with music by Tim and Valerie Walsh, this is the first remount of the original 1975 Mummers Troupe production.
