Event Notes
Join RCA to celebrate one of the most beloved and groundbreaking films to come out of the province, The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood (1986). Based on an original screen play by Andy Jones and directed by Mike Jones, this film tells the story of Faustus Bidgood, a clerk in the Provincial Government’s Department of Education who dreams of becoming premier of an independent Newfoundland. Back in the real world, Faustus' boss Eddie Peddle (Robert Joy), plans to indoctrinate the citizenry of the province with a cultish geometric theory known as Total Education, but he may be foiled at any minute by the revelation of his earlier career as a flamenco dancer.
A decade in the making, this satirical feature was completed through the dedicated efforts of the Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers Co-operative (NIFCO), and stands as a distinct example of collective, regional filmmaking.
The screening will be followed by a special Q&A with Andy Jones, moderated by Nicole Rousseau, Artistic Animateur of RCA Theatre Company.
